• Externships are limited to third and fourth year veterinary students only. Two-week externships for qualified applicants can be scheduled throughout the calendar year.

• Externships are available for veterinary students seeking equine clinical experience to satisfy requirements for their degree. Visits may be scheduled throughout the calendar year for up to a one month visit. Externships are limited to third and fourth year veterinary students only.

• Externs are scheduled to rotate through the surgery, internal medicine, theriogenology, and ambulatory services, but may request an emphasis on one particular area, if desired.

• Our busiest times of the year are between February and October. SVLAC provides housing assistance on a case by case basis. We encourage extern candidates to contact us well in advance to allow us to accommodate class and travel schedules.

• To request an externship application or for additional information, please contact us at externships@svlac.com. The student must provide a letter of reference from at least one professor and specify three possible two-week periods against which we will check availability. After the reference letter and application are received, externships are approved and notifications and date confirmations will be sent to accepted students.
